Finasteride Side Effects..what you Need to know.
Thursday, May 27th, 2010As with any medicine, there are possible Finasteride side effects. However, not all who takes this drug will suffer the side effects. When Finasteride side effects do happen, they are relatively minor and needs no treatment and can be easily treated by your doctor.
Finasteride side effects are rare but can include impotence, abnormal ejaculation, decreased ejaculatory volume, erectile dysfunction, testicular pain, abnormal sexual function, decreased sex drive.
Certain studies concluded a safety investigation of Finasteride side effects advised that using Finasteride may cause irreversible sexual dysfunction. It can also cause difficulty in obtaining an erection that continues indefinitely, even after the person stopped the use of Finasteride.
Finasteride should not also be used by women because it is included in the FDA list of pregnancy category x. Under this category are the drugs that are known to cause birth defects in developing babies especially in male babies. Women who are or who may become pregnant must not handle crushed or broken Finasteride tablets because of the danger of absorption through the skin. Finasteride should not be taken by women who are pregnant. Finasteride also causes abnormal development of the sexual organs of the male fetus. Therefore, women who are pregnant or are likely to be pregnant should not take or even handle Finasteride to prevent an even an unlikely skin absorption.
Finasteride is known to cause birth defects in a developing male baby. Exposure to whole tablets should be avoided whenever possible but exposure to whole tablets is not expected to be harmful as long as the Fnasteride are not swallowed.
It is not yet known whether Finasteride passes into breast milk and should not be taken by women breastfeeding their babies. Finasteride may probably pass into the semen but experts say that a contact of pregnant women with the semen of a man under Finasteride medication need not worry. Finasteride is known to affect blood, and prospective blood donors are not allowed to donate for at least a month after their most recent Finasteride treatment.
Finasteride is banned by many sports organizations because it can be used to hide steroid abuse. Since 2005, Finasteride is also in the World Anti-Doping Agency’s list of banned substances. Even popular athletes who used Finasteride for hair loss were banned from international competition.
Some medicine and health care product regulatory agency announced recently a safety advice on Finasteride and the high risk of male breast cancer. The agency reported that overall incidence of male breast cancer in clinical trials for Finasteride did not increase . A greater risk of male breast cancer cannot be eliminated. A caution on this hazard should be put in the product information.
Other factor to take into consideration in Finasteride side effects is that when some patients stopped taking the medication, some of them did not experience immediate reversal of the symptoms. Some people who took Finasteride have reported that as much as two years after they stopped using Finasteride , the side effects did not reverse.
