By blocking the enzyme responsible for the conversion, Finasteride 5mg tablets may eventually stop the enlargement of the prostate.
Both Proscar and Propecia have the same active ingredient Finasteride. However, Proscar Have the strength os Finasteride 5mg tablet that is approved by the FDA for the treatment of prostate enlargement. Some patients use Proscar as hair loss treatment by cutting the Proscar tablets in quarters to get 1.25mg Finasteride per tablet. This practice should not be followed without your doctor’s advice because this is not approved and recommended by the FDA.
The Finasteride 5mg tablet inhibits the androgen hormone in men to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia [enlargement of the prostate]. Proscar is for men only and is not recommended for women.
Before using Finasteride 5mg tablets, be aware that some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. Inform your doctor of all medicines that you are taking,prescription and over-the-counter and any other medical conditions, allergies, or pregnancy.
You should follow the directions for using Finasteride 5mg tablet provided by your doctor. Do not take 2 tablets all at once.
It may take 6 to 12 months for the Finasteride 5mg tablet to take effect. Do not stop taking this tablet without doctor’s advice. Always keep your doctor’s appointment during your treatment period. Any woman who is pregnant or planning of becoming pregnant should not handle or touch broken tablets because coming in contact with crushed or broken tablets may cause possible male sexual organ defects.
Finasteride side effects that may be experienced while taking this tablet include a decrease in sexual drive or abnormal breast enlargement. If side effects do not stop or are becoming bothersome, seek your doctor’s assistance. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience during the treatment the following side effects: skin rashes, itching or swelling of lips, nose and the face. If you experience other side effects, contact your doctor.
If you take too much and overdose is suspected, contact immediately your local poison control center or go to the nearest emergency room.
It is also important to remember not to share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use the Finasteride for other health conditions other than the ones intended for it. Always keep this medicine out of the reach of children.
